OUR HISTORY

 Hansen’s Auto Service is a single convenience food store and auto service station with self-serve and full service gasoline located at 3802 Trinity Road, Duluth Minnesota 55811.  In the spring of 2006, due to the reconstruction of Trinity Road, the original building was demolished.  With the help and support of the neighborhood, the Hansen's were able to secure the cooperation and approval of state and city agencies to rebuild and expand at their original location. 

The newly incorporated "Hansen's Auto Service of Duluth, Inc" reopened in June of 2007.  We are a family owned operation dating back to the mid 1950’s. 

Al Hansen (father of one of the current owners) opened “Al Hansen’s Service” in the mid 1950’s- a Phillips 66 Station in the Piedmont area, currently the “Piedmont Milkhouse”.  He moved just one block up the road to a Mobil Station in the early 1960’s and built his neighborhood business until he retired and sold the business in 1978. 

Scott and Sue Hansen currently own and operate the current business. Scott Hansen graduated from Denfeld High School and attended the College of St. Scholastica and the University of Minnesota-Duluth until 1981.  During that time, he worked various jobs including at “Paul’s Automotive” and got to know Paul and Shirley Mettner very well.  After marrying his wife, Sue, in 1982, Scott started “Hansen’s Auto Service” out of his father’s garage in June of 1984. 

In July 2001, Paul Mettner approached Scott about helping him out at his station until he retired in October 2001.  Following Paul’s retirement, Scott and Sue Hansen purchased Paul’s Automotive at its current location and incorporated as “Hansen’s Auto Service of Duluth, Inc. in November 2006.Sue (Hanten) Hansen graduated from Central High School and attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth, graduating in 1995.  She worked for 20 years at the Benedictine Health Center until 1999.  Sue is an accomplished pottery artist and has a piece of her pottery on display in China’s “Shiwan Museum of Precious Potteries”.  She also has pottery in 2 area galleries and will again be a featured artist in our gift area.

 Hansen’s Auto Service has been a neighborhood owned & operated business for over 50 years and continues to serve some of the same customers that traded with Al Hansen in the mid 1950’s.
